Live the moment and think about the future with AIESEC Journey

Late check-out with the last position: National Manager of Alumni Engagement and Relations at AIESEC in Vietnam, has made Tu realize: "It is not about the position I took or further activities I joined. It is about the better version I can be and the limit I can break."

Disclaimer: This is the story about the AIESEC journey from the writer's perspective; her lessons and feelings based on her experiments. She would not prefer the following viewpoints to be some of her advice but just a slice of her AIESEC journey that we somehow understand her story.

Brief about Tu before joining AIESEC. A high school student spent the whole grade 11&12 in a boarding school. With limited internet resources and social activities, her networking back then made her think the only goal of life was graduation, high scores, and getting to a famous university. However, life is not just like that; a girl has Zero social skills, closed-mindedness, and sweat whenever talking to people. She tries to define the feeling of being left behind when her friends were masters of social media to expand their knowledge, take skill courses, have an excellent resume and an outstanding worldwide network. She fears lacking information about this modern life, but more than that, she fears losing herself to this madness updated skills world.

Nevertheless, at least, she still can talk with herself, question every day, what is our race and what do we need to win this race?

One year and a half is a short time in an organization to master something, but it is enough for her to know more herself, thanks to AIESEC opportunities. Moreover, what is behind her journey story, conclude in two main statements:

LIVE THE MOMENT

Be a Sponge

Hunger for new opportunities and show her lack of experiences part. Therefore, she can have a chance to approach people who have the technique in that field and clearly define her weakness into specific types of different ways to cope with it. She is willing to learn and try everything to have her experiments, just like a sponge, soaking up water whenever it comes.

Review time

Review is one of the essential steps for closing a project in a fulfilling way. How can we manage it properly and remember all the happened events in such a long process before. It is excellent to know our ability to organize events, meet with teammates every week for projects, and be considered opportunities when rejected from a job or failing an interview at first sites. As long as we take time after every activity to look back, to review our achievements (even the failure, as she said), conclude some tips and gain lessons, and what is next, prepare for the better version of we.

Speak with ourselves when the time comes

Since the moment she realizes the cycle of communication that most effective with her always begin with the time she spends with herself to make decisions and truly end when she again talks to herself and asks for the next step. Let the conversation begin and enjoy our true feelings is the method she believes in defining our lives slowly. We do not need a big topic like: "What will I be in the future?". Instead, start with the current situation: "How do you feel today?" "Can you do better with today's task? "What is your achievement so far?". The thing she has does not reflect through the answer, but how she finds out new things about her ability and even more.

Time out.

Planning, tracking, meeting, studying, and being busy in the path of finding ourselves. There will be a time; we will be tired of sitting at the same place with the same unfinished tasks are waiting for us. Inform the leader about her overwhelming situation, shut down the notifications, and save her last energy for things she likes. With this kind of balance, or she can say " The escape day" helps her maintain the manner for the whole period with the same energy until the last moment of the event. Therefore, it is okay to get slow sometimes to look at two sides of our road and continue to run.

Energy spending

She had a period when she wanted to try everything in her social life but lose attention to what deeply can gain for her the long-run experiences. It took much time to realize what to prioritize, and as the young generation, she wants to see the results immediately. However, be patient, and set a goal of energy for each aspect of life can gain more beyond the results. Using our energy randomly gives out of our time, thoughts, and strength to do without thinking. Like a cake, share with more people who want it, each of them has a tiny bite, share with the one we truly want to share and maintain the relationship, they have more bite and help us make another cake.
